As one of the major puveyors of the start of Hip Hop music, Baby Beck Records has seen it all. Producer and founder Kenny Beck is one of the pioneers of Hip Hop music. Having written and produced what is arguably one of the first Hip Hop records ever, "2 The Limit" by Octavia Lambertis. This song would lead the way to changing music ...
1984 - Kenny Beck is the producer & executive producer of CBS Records "Break Dancing" album. He decides to put Lisa Lisa and Cult Jams inocuous little single "I Wonder If I Take You Home" on it, after finding it in a throwaway bin at Personal Records. He was signed to Personal's label as an artist and for publishing. He puts labelmate Geoge Kranz's infectious dance groove "Din Daa Daa" on it too. Each tune has big international success while Lisa Lisa braces for global attention because of her mesmorizing, innovative sound.
1985 - Kenny Beck finds and launches legendary rapper KRS One (and Scott La Rock's) career by writing and producing the Hip Hop classic, "Success is the Word". They record it under the name "12:41", the time Beck and his partner, David Eng (Snow and Inspector Gadget) finished mixing the record in the studio. The studio, Bayside Sound was in the basement of David's house, the home of traditional Chinese people. Many of Hip Hop's major hits were recorded here, UTFO's "Roxanne, Roxanne", Salt N Pepa, Kid n Play, Full Force, Dana Dane, James Brown (without whom there would be no Hip Hop) and many, many more. http://davidkennetheng.com/Home_Page.html
